threads of love

you found time
to listen,
my first word
hung in the void
spanning infinity,
you stretched out,
grabbed,
almost missing
my heart
falling towards
private hell,
causing you
to reach again,
i wept
for fear that i
would be the cause
of your overbalance,
you caught me,
wrapped invisible arms
around my emptiness,
said softly,

whatever my loss
or yours,
we have threads of love
to hold us together

This is written in tribute to my parents...Rob & Liz...whose love began on valentine's day many years ago. They were parted, in body but not spirit, by his death in 2002. Together they were the two sides of a coin, the heads and the tails. I flip the coin and still I see both sides..." love spanning infinity".

The images are from a photograph of my parents, taken around 1962 or 1963, in Brighton, England. They are approximately 20 and 21 (he being the older) and they had not long met. The tale I have been told is of how a photographer on the sea front approached them and asked to take the picture. They were reluctant but agreed. The photographer fussed for so long that neither were smiling much by the end.
